On May 20th, Governor Baker gave a press conference to provide a COVID-19 update on Testing, Hospitalization, PPE, Phase 1 Reopening, and Symmons Manufacturing.

Here is the summary.

Testing

  • Yesterday, there were 8,000 tests reported. This brings the total number of tests to 476,000 to date.

    • Of the tests reported yesterday, less than 10% came back positive which is consistent with the data over the past few weeks.

Hospitalizations

  • There are currently 2,472 patients hospitalized due to COVID-19.

PPE

  • MA has delivered over 11 million pieces of personal protective equipment so far.

Phase 1 Reopening

  • It is important for businesses to get PPE and cleaning supplies. The Administration has developed guidance for businesses for what supplies are necessary and a portal to connect to cleaning/PPE suppliers.

  • Businesses are expected to implement these safety standards and guidelines. Please find more information about this here.

Symmons Manufacturing

  • Governor Baker visited Symmons Manufacturing today for the press conference. Symmons Manufacturing is a great example of a business taking leadership and embracing new safety protocols.

    • A few safety measures Symmons has implemented are mandatory temperature taking when employees arrive as well as a new floor layout to ensure employees can practice social distancing.
